The project team has completed the design for a new 250-bed adult and 12-bed adolescent facility for the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York and the New York State Office of Mental Health. ARIG provided interior design services for this 243,000 square foot, six-story, facility. A welcoming, therapeutic environment, relaxing, not age defining. Permanent finishes are monochromatic nature based, weathered seashore with minimal use of accents. Contributing to the environment are people, outdoor views, artwork, graphics and signage. The finish materials and colors echo a connection with nature and the outside world to promote a safe secure feeling. The base color palette is not visually busy reducing the feeling of confusion and unease. The cool colors are appropriate for reducing agitation and anxiousness in individuals. Original nature inspired graphics created for this project are located at elevator lobbies and unit corridors for way-finding. Bedroom corridor soffits are a nature based accent visually lowering the ceiling for a more homelike feel. Light wall color at corridor bedroom side distinguishes it from the deeper color at the service core bathroom side. Deep door frame and wall base provides tonal detail that differentiates it from the immediate surroundings.
